Hypnobirthing - as featured on One Born Every Minute
Hypnobirthing gave me a birth experience
I only could have dreamt about. Like all
women I was anxious and uncertain about
what to expect. We were aiming for a
natural birth but everyone kept telling me it
was a ridiculous idea and I should go for
I was determined to prove them wrong and
Thank you so much for providing such a positive experience at your workshop!
I really feel so empowered and the connection with my husband has just been amazing. I can't tell you how much the book and your session has changed my life
I'm feeling really good and we've been practising the techniques over the weekend, plus I listen to the tracks very night and morning as I find they give me real
peace and relaxation.
I am really looking forward to sharing my birth story and I can't thank you enough for the amazing gift of giving my partner a role and connection in this experience - I
think that is so important and is so often overlooked. I feel now that together we'll share this special experience as a family. I am already reaping the rewards of our
close and connected relationship leading up to the birth - such a special time.
All the best and we look forward to sharing our special birth story with you
This is my Birth Story:
At 11pm on Thursday night my waters broke and I got up (careful not to wake my husband! so he could get some sleep before things kicked off)
I put in a pad, put a towel down on the mattress and I tried to go back to sleep to get maximum rest for what was ahead.
By about 1 am I needed to change the pad as I was leaking consistently by now. At this stage I had period like pains and listened to the
positive birth affirmations (from my hypno-birthing course) on my iPod while resting on the sofa. I got another hour or so of sleep and then by
about 3.30am I could feel surges and decided to have a bath to relax.
At around 5.30am my mum called the hospital to let them know that my waters had broken and they told me I needed to come in to be
Poor husband got a terrible fright at this stage as he hadn’t had any warning and was shocked to be woken up and told it was time to go to
At 6am we got to the hospital and on arrival I was examined and told I was 2cm dilated and could go home or stay and be re-examined in 2
hours. We decided to stay around the hospital as there was no one around and we had a space to ourselves – I felt relaxed and positive. I
continued with my 4-8 breathing with the help of my amazingly supportive birth partners (my husband and my mum) who kept me focused
and on track throughout. (I was offered Pethidine and co-codamol at this stage (they hadn’t read my birth plan at this stage) – both of which I
refused as I never felt the pain was that bad or could not be managed with my breathing)
Things progressed very quickly and my contractions were lasting longer and coming more frequently – when I was re-examined 45 minutes later I was 4 cms and
was ready to go to the birthing suite and get into the birthing pool.
By 7.30am I was in the birthing pool and using my 4-8 breathing. I felt confident working through the surges as they got closer together and more intense, I focused
on the moment I would meet our baby as it drew closer.
By 12 noon I knew it was very close and I was getting impatient. I could feel my whole body bearing down after 4 -5 major contractions and help the head came
down and another 3 or 4 more she was out in the pool. The midwives handed her to me and placed her on my chest. She was very alert and looked around at
The midwives, my mum and my husband were all in disbelief that it had happened so quickly. We were the talk of the maternity ward as they said that first babies
are usually at least an additional 12 hours of labour
Throughout the whole time my husband and I used the techniques we learnt in the hypno - birthing workshop with you, which gave me the confidence to achieve the
birth I really wanted!
Thank you! Fiona, Frans and Isabella
I highly recommend
Reshma as both as a
but also as a doula. I've
been to hundreds of births
over the years and many
of the women have been
to Hypnobirthing classes.
All classes are not the
same. Reshma's classes
are unique and I've seen
the positive results with
my clients when they go
into labour. Shorter,
easier, more relaxed and
calm births. Babies
